Reflect, Refocus, Recharge: Maximising your school holiday as an online schooler

Term One is done and dusted. Whether you attend a traditional school, online school, or are homeschooling, it’s never easy, but you made it! Now it’s time to rest, recharge and make the most of the holidays.

Taking some time to recharge is vital for both our physical and mental well-being. As an online schooler, you’re constantly managing your own schedule, always planning and thinking about what you need to do next, and, unless you’re very careful, this can spill over into the holidays.

Your brain needs time to rest and switch off. You may need to give yourself permission to do this, but when you do, you’ll soon appreciate getting a good night’s sleep without waking up in the early hours with your to-do list running through your head.

Reflect

The holidays are also a good opportunity to reflect on what worked during the first term and what you need to change or do differently to achieve greater success during the course of the year. Brainline teacher, Charissa Keyser, has a few helpful tips:

Refocus

By switching off, it also allows you time to reset your stress levels and one way to de-stress is to dedicate some time to prepare for the new school term. Organising your workload and setting aside a few specific time slots for preparation can help you manage your time and reduce stress and worries about the new term. Such scheduling of time for preparation will help you feel in control, especially since, as an online school student, you have to manage your time carefully when the academic term is in full swing. Give your mind and body time to destress and you’ll find you do your tasks better when you return for the next term.

Recharge

Make time to reconnect with your family and friends. You may see certain friends or family members more often as you attend your online school from home,  but sometimes spending quality time with them and other friends or family away from your school setting is a good idea. Whether it’s getting lunch, going hiking, or taking a day trip, spending time with our friends and family can help us strengthen our relationships and make memories.
