Brainline Children Playgroup Teacher: Montana, Pretoria

Brainline is looking for an enthusiastic candidate to join the Brainline Children Playgroup as a Teacher at its branch in Montana, Pretoria.

The teacher will perform various duties. This includes, but is not limited to, the duties listed below.

  • Cleanliness and Organization:
    • Ensure that classroom and play areas is cleaned twice a week and always organised.
    • This includes sanitizing of toys, surfaces, and equipment regularly to prevent the spread of germs.
    • Toys and educational activities must be organised and stored to appropriate places daily always ensuring tidy classroom.
    • Review of toys and activities in classroom must be done on the last Thursday of every month, recycling those that are not appropriate/ broken.
  • Supervision and Safety:
    • Always ensure the safety and well-being of children.
    • Monitor activities to prevent accidents and respond promptly to emergencies.
    • Create a secure and child-friendly environment.
  • Basic Care:
    • Provide for the basic needs of children, including feeding, diapering (for younger children), and assisting with restroom breaks.
    • Help children develop good hygiene habits.
  • Educational Activities:
    • Plan and implement age-appropriate educational activities to stimulate intellectual and social development.
    • Foster language development through reading, storytelling, and conversation.
  • Play and Recreation:
    • Organize and supervise playtime activities that encourage physical activity, creativity, and social interaction.
    • Provide a variety of toys and materials to support learning through play.
  • Communication:
    • Maintain open and effective communication with parents or guardians regarding their child's progress, behaviour, and any concerns.
    • Communicate with other staff members to ensure consistent care and support.
    • Regular communication with management regarding new/ additional toys / activities required.
  • Behaviour Management:
    • Implement positive techniques to guide children's behaviour.
    • Foster a positive and respectful atmosphere within the childcare setting.
  • Health Monitoring:
    • Keep track of children's health,
    • Monitor and report signs of illness or developmental concerns to parents or guardians.
  • Record Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate records of each child's daily activities, progress, and any incidents that occur.
    • Keep attendance records and update emergency contact information regularly.
  • Crisis Intervention:
    • Be prepared to handle and manage crises or emergencies, including following established protocols for evacuation or lockdown situations.
  • Professional Development:
    • Stay informed about best practices in childcare and early childhood education.
    • Attend training sessions and workshops to improve skills and stay current on relevant topics.
  • Cultural Sensitivity:
    • Be sensitive to and respectful of diverse cultural backgrounds and family values.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with others, and support staff to provide comprehensive care and support for children.
  • Setup a year planner for the playgroup including:
    • Weekly themes
    • School trips
  • Ensure a comprehensive day planner as described.

Application Requirements:

  • A minimum qualification of a National Senior Certificate.
  • At least 3 years of work experience.
  • Experience in an educational environment is required.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with a high level of interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent skills in interacting with people in a positive and courteous manner.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Afrikaans.
  • Responsible, dependable, punctual, with the possibility of working flexible working hours.
  • Demonstrates empathy, patience, passion, and boundless energy in interaction with the children.
  • Valid driver’s license (Code 8) with a reliable vehicle.
